A master’s thesis at the College of Applied Medical Sciences at the University of Karbala investigated some immunological and biochemical parameters in women with lupus arthritis.
The thesis submitted by student Muhammad Rabie Naseh aimed to evaluate some biochemical immune parameters in women with lupus arthritis for the purpose of identifying them as an indicator of the development of the disease.
The letter concluded that the levels of Osteoprotegerin (OPG) and β-crosslaps (β-CTX) increased significantly in lupus arthritis, while the levels of Osteocalcin (OC) and Vitamin D3 (Vit-D3) decreased, and the levels of OPG and β-CTX were positively related to the activity of… Disease, while OC and Vit-D3 levels had a negative relationship with disease activity, in addition, β-CTX examination showed excellent diagnostic performance for lupus arthritis and a good indicator of the severity of lupus arthritis.
The letter recommended studying the role of β-CTX in kidney damage. It also recommended integrating the β-CTX test with the routine tests performed on lupus erythematosus patients in the laboratories of the Iraqi Ministry of Health, as well as studying the role of vitamin K and cathepsin K in patients with lupus erythematosus.
