The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, held a meeting with Alexei Likhachev, Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM), to discuss areas of cooperation in the field of developing nuclear energy for peaceful and educational uses.

The Minister of Education expressed his appreciation for the interest in Iraq’s participation in the International Forum (ATOMEXPO-2024) in the city of Sochi, while praising the depth of relations between the two friendly countries and explaining the path of the national vision of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Authority regarding the research reactor project that is used for scientific and health purposes. He thanked the Russian side for providing scholarships to students. Iraqis in the fields of nuclear energy engineering.

For his part, Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM), Alexei Likhachev, expressed the readiness of the Russian side to cooperate and coordinate regarding the zero reactor, the research reactor, and electronuclear power plants, and to provide study fellowships in energy engineering, nuclear and radiation physics, and exchange experiences between universities in accordance with the context of understanding agreed upon by both parties.
