The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, received the international academic evaluation team and discussed indicators of the performance of Iraqi universities and their ranks recorded in the Times World Ranking.
During the meeting, the Minister of Education clarified the course of visions and measures taken by the Ministry regarding the modernization of curricula, revealing the formation of a higher committee to review this file and benefit from the experiences of international universities, market requirements and specialized knowledge variables in all academic fields.
He added that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its universities are continuing to organize and enhance the environment of cooperation between Iraqi universities and their foreign counterparts, and the studied openness to productive international partnerships that serve university education in Iraq.
The Minister of Education revealed the Iraqi government’s intention to establish a new public university and start with its requirements within the current year to absorb the momentum on higher education institutions and open the way that coincides with attracting foreign students within the Study in Iraq initiative.
The international team, which includes Dr. Talal Youssef, Dean of Higher Education and Emerging Technologies in the Queensland Government and former Vice-Chancellor of the Australian Union University, Mr. Nick Davis, Head of the Times Rankings for the Middle East and Africa, Dr. Steve Hall, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology at the Australian University of Queensland, and Dr. Salih Jaafar, Head of Akademi Professor Malayasia, reviewed The report on visits and follow-up to the Iraqi University with regard to indicators of strength and weakness, exchange of programs, scientific twinning, international openness, the path of scientific research and its results achieved at the level of global publication and influence in the fields of community service.
The international academic evaluation team described its visit, in the presence of the Undersecretary for Scientific Research Affairs and a number of university presidents, to the Iraqi university institutions included in the Times classification and nominated to compete in it as distinguished, for which results were nominated that will enhance the work strategy of higher education institutions in Iraq.
