The College of Science at the University of Karbala, in cooperation with the Karbala Environment Directorate, organized a scientific symposium on climate change and its impact on the environment, with the participation of researchers and specialists in the field of environment.
The symposium came with the aim of raising awareness, defining the environmental situation in Iraq, defining climate changes and the importance of protecting the environment.
The symposium included introducing the participants to natural climatic changes as well as those produced by human intervention, directly or indirectly, and the resulting effects.
The symposium reviewed the problem of water and its relationship to climate change, the pattern of rainfall distribution, the saturation of the seas with carbon, which led to a decrease in the water level, and human interventions represented in building dams on the Euphrates and Tigris rivers outside Iraq, as well as the international report on this matter.
The researchers provided statistics on the average per capita consumption of water per day, while the researchers called for the enactment of laws to preserve the environment and the development of educational curricula that focus on caring for the environment and protecting it from tampering.
