“Diabetes changes the way the body interacts with bacteria,” says Dr. Robert Gyourko, a periodontist at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston.
And he confirms that diabetes exhausts the body in general and thus weakens the immune system in it, but if this occurs in the mouth .. it may lead to gum infections.
In the worst case, Dr. Gyourko says, gingivitis may lead to tooth loss. What are the best ways to avoid this?
The most important thing they need to do is maintain their blood glucose level. Dr. Gyourko confirms that high blood sugar levels, especially in the mouth area, may lead to gingivitis.
Cleaning the teeth and gums is very important and should be done regularly. As for the dirt on the teeth, it must be removed by brushing the teeth daily with toothpaste and floss.. Dr. Gyourko stresses that the method of cleaning is more important than the number of cleaning times.
“If you brush your teeth vigorously… or periodically… you may damage your gums and the roots of your teeth.” So brush your teeth gently after meals or at least twice a day using a soft brush.
Also, do not forget to massage the gums with this brush lightly and in a circular shape.
