Risk factors for brain tumors
There is no clear and specific cause of brain tumors, but some conditions and factors increase the risk of developing brain tumors, both benign and cancerous.
The most important of these factors are:
Radiation therapy: Radiation therapy for tumors and cancer outside the brain may increase the risk of brain tumors.
Genetic diseases: Several genetic diseases increase the risk of brain tumors, the most important of which are:
Neurofibromatosis (NF- Neurofibromatosis): It is a genetic disease that leads to many types of tumors in the body, especially in the nervous system, which leads to brain tumors.
Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome: a genetic syndrome that leads to tumors in many organs such as the pancreas, kidneys, eyes and brain.
Radiation in the workplace: Research is still being conducted on exposure to radiation in the workplace, and so far no studies have been shown to prove the risk of brain tumors as a result of radiation.
Cell phones: Although the seriousness of cell phones is not clear, recent studies have shown that exposure to cell phones and their radiation does not increase the risk of brain tumors.
Metastases: the presence of cancer in other organs of the body, which may lead to the spread of metastases to the brain.
