The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, affirmed that medical education is in the right direction, and that medical colleges and their national council are taking deliberate steps towards international accreditation.
In his speech during the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the Al-Kindi College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, the Minister of Education said that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with confidence and responsibility, has accomplished in record time what the faithful aspire to in the field of medical education, as it provided a professional environment supportive of the Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges in Iraq and gave a positive impetus in communication with the International Federation of Medical Education, which included Iraq since last March in the list of countries foreseen to obtain international accreditation and is now eligible to be present in the map of councils that are taking confident steps towards international accreditation.
He added that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its institutions specialized in medical education adopted a well-studied path that included a parallel approach to the official steps adopted with the International Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and formulated a joint memorandum of understanding with the Commission for Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions and Quality Assurance in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which is recognized by the International Federation for Education. Medical Education to enhance cooperation in the field of quality assurance and accreditation of academic programs, stressing that the medical education environment in Iraq is moving in the right direction that suits its identity and its ancient history, whose founding stations date back to 1927.
He added that the gains and development of Iraqi universities and educational institutions came at a time when the Iraqi government launched the national strategy for education, which extends until 2031 with the help of development partners from international friends, and identified areas for its implementation through strategic goals and programs with a qualitative impact related to the efficiency of internal institutions, scientific research, innovation, quality and accreditation. Governance and external competence that flow into the environment of sustainable strategic partnerships, pointing out that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, since its inception in this government, has been determined to make maximum efforts to provide an educational environment that contributes to the development and development of students’ skills and enhance their scientific and clinical capabilities, and at the same time it proceeded to activate review and analysis methodologies Academic programs, curricula and teaching methods, and strived to keep them in line with modern medical and scientific developments, in addition to adopting innovative and interactive methods with the aim of stimulating exploration factors and critical thinking among students and researchers.
In this context, the President of the University of Baghdad, Dr. Mounir Al-Saadi, said in his speech that moving towards the accreditation of academic programs was important to consolidate the university education environment in Iraq, especially in medical specializations that have made their way towards globalization and solid international institutions, while the Dean of the Canadian College of Medicine, Dr. Muhammad Jalal, gave a presentation on the achievements His college and scientific journal, which entered the global publishing environment through Scopus.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, concluded the event by honoring the President of the University and the sixth successive deans of the Al-Kindi College of Medicine, representatives of health institutions and top students.
