Tehran: Iranian doctors have cured 60 diseases through stem cell transplantation.
The Iranian news agency “IRNA” quoted “Ardashir Ghavamzadeh,” head of the Center for Blood Research and Stem Cell Transplantation at “Shariati” Hospital in Tehran, announcing that 60 types of different diseases have been treated in Iran through stem cell transplantation.
Ghavamzadeh added that the stem cell transplantation department in the aforementioned hospital began work in 1989, and it performs about 400 stem cell transplants annually, including 100 for children.
He pointed to the possibility of treating 60 types of diseases, including genetic diseases and thalassemia, by transplanting stem cells.
