What is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is an inflammation of the membrane that lines the sinuses and others, which leads to limiting the normal flow of mucus and air into and out of the small openings that connect them to the nasal cavity. Normally, tiny hairs called cilia push mucus and other waste out of the sinuses into the nasal cavity, but inflammation can slow this process, keeping mucus in the sinus cavity, making it an environment for bacteria to multiply.
Symptoms of sinusitis may include: stuffy nose, yellow-green discharge from the nose, soreness in the face over the area of the sinus cavity, cough, malaise, mild headache and a sense of heaviness in the head.
