A master’s thesis in the Department of Horticulture and Landscaping at the College of Agriculture at the University of Karbala dealt with the effect of UV rays and salicylic acid to increase the formation of active compounds of rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis L. outside the body.

The study aimed to know the effect of plant growth regulators of auxins and cytokinins on the emergence and multiplication of vegetative branches and stimulate the emergence of callus of rosemary plants, in addition to studying the effect of the duration of exposure to UV rays) and the concentration of salicylic acid (SA), in the multiplication of vegetative branches and the growth of callus and increase the stimulation of Production of secondary metabolites.

The study determined the method of sterilization with NaOCl at a concentration of 2% for a period of 15 minutes as the best combination for sterilizing the plant parts of a plant and adopting it as a starting point in the program of establishing vegetative branch farms and inducing callus of rosemary plants.

The study recommended the importance of employing plant tissue culture technology in propagating other medicinal plants that are difficult to propagate in the field, and increasing their content of metabolic compounds of pharmaceutical importance.
