Scientists at the British University of Oxford are testing the use of electricity to enhance brain power. Direct current can be stimulated through the skull by sending weak electrical currents through the scalp to stimulate neurons in the brain.
And according to “Sky News”, electrodes are placed on different parts of the head to improve concentration levels.
Chief scientist at the University of Oxford’s Department of Experimental Psychology, Roy Cohen Kadow, who is leading the project, described his findings as “promising”.
Research so far has shown, Kadosh said, that transcranial direct current stimulation is risk-free.
However, testing is currently being done on a very narrow group, so more research is needed before the true effects of stimulation on health can be evaluated.
It is believed that this technology can also be used to help patients with attention deficit disorder, depression and Parkinson’s disease.
