Premolars or large molar teeth

Comments Off on Premolars or large molar teeth

The last three teeth on either side of the upper and lower jaws are called the large molars, premolars, or molars. The total number of these teeth is 12, and they are called the first, second, and third molars, respectively. The first molar teeth are located next to the second teeth of the small molar or premolars.

Premolars have a large chewing surface. Also on the chewing surface of these teeth, which play a major role in the erosion and crushing of food, are several burrs or pointy projections that are used for crushing food.
