Lower jaw surgery

Currently, Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy (BSSO) is the procedure of choice for most patients who need to move the mandible forward, and this procedure is performed orally. Since the discovery of this technique, several changes have been made in the surgical procedures to reduce the separation of the levator muscle which has higher coils. These changes resulted in increased stability and reduced tissue damage. This osteotomy creates a large bony surface full of blood vessels for quick healing of the area. The overlap between the two bone segments allows for easy fixation through intraosseous wires or placement of bone fixing screws, thus eliminating the problem of instability after treatment. Internal fixation with orthopedic screws is fully compliant with the BSSO method. This has increased the popularity of this method of bringing the lower jaw forward. One of the advantages of Rigid Fixation in BSSO surgery is that the postoperative stability will be of an excellent degree. The patient can move his jaw and follow his own diet soon after the surgery, and the orthodontic treatment can be completed in this way as soon as possible.
