Sometimes going to the dentist can be a little uncomfortable. It’s normal for kids to feel nervous about having to sit in the dentist’s chair. But, in general, it is the underage patients who behave better when it comes to going to the dentist.
So what are the reasons why children are afraid of the dentist? This can be very diverse. Among the most common are:
Fear of the unknown. When children visit a new place where they don’t know what’s going to happen, they may feel a little nervous as a warning sign and danger.
Parental fear. Without realizing it, adults transmit fear to the children’s dentist. This is why it is important that older adults who are afraid to go to the dentist’s office do not show it in front of their children.
Fear of pain. Children who have been through a traumatic situation before, associate a visit to the dentist with pain. However, treatments for children are usually simpler and pain-free, and it is not uncommon for children to remember it as a bad thing.
