As we have already seen, the gingival mucosa is very sensitive and can suffer multiple damages. Too aggressive brushing directly affects the integrity of the tooth enamel as well as the gum tissue.
Whether or not you have sensitive gums, brushing should be done properly, with the right intensity and using the most effective products. These are the steps you should follow in brushing your teeth to strengthen your gums:
Put a small amount of toothpaste on your toothbrush.
Place the bristles of the brush on the gum line in a horizontal position, forming a 45-degree angle.
Next, make horizontal movements over the junction of the tooth and gum. Make sure you get to the bottom of the groove so you don’t leave any exposed surfaces.
After a few seconds of brushing, gently make a vertical pulling motion, moving the brush from the gums to the edge of the tooth.
Repeat the same process all over the mouth, covering the inside and outside of all teeth.
Don’t forget to floss or brush between the teeth for a thorough cleaning of the nearby spaces.
Finish using the mouthwash, and hold it in your mouth for 1 minute.
In the event that you notice irritation or bleeding in the gums, do not hesitate to go to your dentist to treat the problem as soon as possible.
