The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The Fiction of Islamic History in the Novels of Jurji Zaidan,” “The Novel of the Seventeenth of Ramadan as a Choice.”
The study aimed to reveal the method used by Gerji Zaidan to present glimpses of Islamic history, (the night of treachery by Imam Ali), and his attempt to reconstruct it as a fictional event to rearrange the rhythm of time in a way that suits the serial events in the novel, a sequence that is governed by the limits of the historical incident.
The study is an attempt to answer the problem that revolves around the method adopted by the novelist, “Jergy Zaidan”, in his formulation of the imagined events.
The study concluded that the experience of Gerji Zaidan in the historical novel is an unprecedented experience in Arab culture.
