An interdental brush is a small, single-use brush that either has a reusable angled plastic handle, or an integral handle. The brush is used to clean between the teeth, and between the wires of the dental braces and the teeth. The brushes are available in different sizes and are color coded according to the ISO 16409 system. ISO brushes range from 1 to 7. Brush sizes are determined by the PHD (passage hole diameter) in mm, which is the minimum hole diameter that an interdental brush can pass through without deforming the wire of the brush stem. It has been found that using an interdental brush and a regular toothbrush removes plaque more effectively than using a brush and dental floss [12].
