Striped toothpaste
justice
Striped toothpaste was invented by Leonard Marravino in 1955, and the patent (US Patent 2,789,731 issued 1957) was sold to Unilever, which marketed the new product under the brand name “Stripe” in the early 1960s. Subsequently, the “Signal” brand was introduced to Europe in 1965 (UK Patent 813,514). Although Stripe was initially successful, it never again achieved the 8% market share it captured during its second year.
