The pioneering dentist, Charles Edmund Kells, appointed his first dental assistant. Male dentists initially dominated the field of dentistry, but after the introduction of the profession of dental assistant, women made it their profession and it became acceptable for women to visit the dentist without the presence of their husbands. The dental profession has flourished and women have increased their demand for dental treatment.[1]
