Edward Angel, the father of modern orthodontics
Overlapping teeth has been a major problem for some individuals since ancient times, and attempts to correct it date back more than 1000 BC. Attempts at calendars have been found from the Greek, Etruscan, and even Pharaonic periods.
The first recorded attempt to straighten crowded teeth dates back to Aulius Cornelius Celsus (25-50 BC) when he endorsed the idea that finger pressure affected tooth adjustment.
The French dentist (Pierre Vauchard) is considered the discoverer of modern dentistry when he developed the first orthodontic device to expand the jaw.
