We do not know yet what is the best dental material used in cases of direct endodontic coverage.
The most effective dental materials in the pulpotomy technique are total mineral trioxide (MTA) and formocresol, and both are better than calcium hydroxide.[9] There are some concerns about the toxicity of formocresol, [9] but to date there has been no research on its toxicity after its use in the pulp treatment of primary teeth in children. [10]
Mineral trioxide (MTA) paints children’s teeth gray, and this property is an undesirable side effect, although it does not affect the success of the procedure.[10]
Zinc eugenol (ZOE) is probably the best option for filling root canals after pulp removal in the excisional pulpectomy technique, as it is effective, inexpensive and safe for children.[9]
