In dentistry, an abutment is a connecting element.[1] They are used in fixed bridge work (“support teeth” refer to the teeth supporting the bridge), removable partial dentures (“support teeth” refer to the teeth supporting the partial denture) and in dental implants (used to hold a crown, bridge, or removable denture to fixed dental implants). A fixed dental implant is the screw-like part that fuses to bone.
