Most babies start teething at around 6 months of age, however, some babies can start teething as early as 4 months, while others start teething up to 12 months.
After the appearance of the first set of teeth, babies will continue to get new teeth every two months.
Here are some of the symptoms that babies may experience during teething.
Doctors assume that some children experience mild gum pain during teething. When teeth come in and come out of the gum line, they cause a break in the gums. This gum pain is caused by bacteria entering the newly opened gums.
However, because babies can’t specifically express that their gums hurt, experts can’t confirm that teething causes gum pain.
Gum pain and mild discomfort cause irritability in some children. This, in turn, may lead to increased crying.
However, some doctors note that teething pain should not cause excessive crying, as this amount of crying may indicate an infection or other underlying problem.
