Orthodontic appliances are divided into two groups:
Removable device (Fig. 1), fixed device (Fig. 2).
A removable appliance is a device that the patient can take out of his mouth and put back on his own without the need for an orthodontist.
A fixed appliance is a device that the patient cannot put in the mouth alone or take out, and this must be done by an orthodontist.
Depending on the type of condition, orthodontic appliances can be removable or fixed.
