The College of Human Sciences at the University of Karbala witnessed a master’s thesis discussion that dealt with soils and their impact on grape production in the Ansar district of Salah al-Din Governorate.

The study included four chapters, the first dealt with the theoretical framework, while the second dealt with the history of grape cultivation in the world and Iraq and its nutritional and health importance.

The study aimed to know the types of soils and their geographical distribution in the study area and their suitability for grape production, as well as to identify pests and diseases that affect grapes and their impact on productivity.

The importance of the study stems from the grape tree’s leadership in terms of the number of trees in the country, with a rate of 34% of the total fruit trees.

The study concluded that the use of a traditional irrigation system by 85% negatively affected the soil, and also concluded that the excessive use of chemical fertilizers without knowing the real need for the soil, which led to its conversion into toxins that kill the organisms that the soil needs.

The researcher presented a number of proposals, including the importance of using modern irrigation methods in order to reduce water drainage and preserve the soil from salinization, as well as not to irrigate from wells and sprouts except after conducting the necessary laboratory analyzes.
