The Department of Horticulture and Landscaping at the College of Agriculture, University of Karbala, discussed a master’s thesis that characterized the effect of some growth regulators, lighting type, and sucrose on the propagation and production of secondary metabolite compounds of the stevia plant outside the living body.
The study reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which is that the growing tops as a plant part used in the emergence stage gave the highest response amounting to 70.00%, while the lateral shoots gave the highest response amounting to 54.68%.
The researcher suggested a set of recommendations, among which was the necessity of employing tissue culture technology in plant propagation and increasing the possibility of successful adaptation of the plant to live in external conditions, as well as the importance of employing tissue culture technology in increasing the production of the two natural sweeteners, Stevioside and Rebaudioside, by exposing them to stress conditions or adding the initiator. structural to the nutrient medium.
