The College of Agriculture at the University of Karbala succeeded, for the first time, in planting saffron bulbs, while it continues its attempt to make multiple scientific experiments successful.

Saffron bulbs are evergreen perennial plants that belong to the Iris family of plants.

Saffron is among the most expensive spices in the world. This is due to its many benefits, and the difficulty of collecting stigmas from parts of the saffron flower.

Specialists hope that this initiative will be the factor encouraging the cultivation of saffron in the governorates of the Middle Euphrates and not only in the city of Karbala.
