A master’s thesis at the College of Management and Economics at the University of Karbala discussed the role of industrial exports in addressing structural imbalances – experiences of selected countries with reference to Iraq.
The thesis submitted by student Hossam Ayed Safook aimed to study the structural imbalances that many economies suffered from, including the Iraqi economy, which led to the deterioration of economic growth rates and the weak contributions of productive sectors to output and employment indicators.
The study concluded that the Iraqi economy suffers from imbalances in the structure of public expenditures and an imbalance in the distribution of investment and operational allocations, in addition to an imbalance in the structure of revenues.
The study recommended the need for the state to address structural imbalances by adopting policies that include stimulating and revitalizing the rest of the sectors in order to reduce imports and fill part of the domestic demand.
