A study at the College of Management and Economics at the University of Karbala discussed banking concentration and its impact on the performance and financial stability of commercial banks – (An analytical study of a sample of Iraqi commercial banks for the period 2013 – 2022).
The study presented by student Jihad Faisal aimed to test and evaluate the impact of banking concentration on the performance of commercial banks and to determine the extent of the impact of banking concentration on financial stability.
The thesis concluded that there is a discrepancy between the banks in the study sample in achieving the rate of return on assets (ROA), as the banks achieved positive, but relatively low, returns.
The study recommended the need for managements of commercial banks with small assets to follow the banking merger approach voluntarily in order to face the challenges in light of the competitive environment.
