The Women’s Empowerment Division at the Presidency of the University of Karbala, in cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment Unit in the College of Dentistry, held an awareness course on the causes of violence against women and its effects on society. A group of female teachers from the College of Dentistry and the College of Education for Human Sciences lectured in it, and they were the teacher, Dr. Fatima Sahib Abd, assistant lecturer. Aseel Abdul Reda Shalabh, assistant teacher Israa Muhammad Ali Kassab, assistant teacher Zainab Hammoud Kazar, and assistant teacher Kadhimiya Abdul Hadi Abdul Zahra.
The course, which was held entitled (Violence against women between the past and the present: causes, effects, and solutions), aimed to discuss the reasons for the spread of this phenomenon that deviates from human common sense throughout history, while educating society about the consequences of violence against women and the resulting negative effects and dire long-term consequences on the family. In particular and society in general, as well as discussing ways to limit its spread.
The course included discussion of several topics, including the suffering of women in ancient civilizations, as well as contemporary international conventions on women’s rights, in addition to the violence to which women are exposed in Eastern society. The course was held in cooperation with the College of Computer Science and Information Technology and in Al-Khwarizmi Hall in the college, in the presence of a group of faculty and students.
