The College of Science at the University of Karbala organized a workshop on electronic blackmail and its impact on society, targeting a group of college students.
The workshop aimed to educate students about the dangers of electronic blackmail and how to maintain the security of personal information.
The workshop topics dealt with the concept of electronic crime and electronic blackmail in particular and the criminal penalty prescribed for it, and an explanation of the methods through which users’ personal accounts are hacked, in addition to clarifying the role of specialists in confronting electronic blackmail crimes and protecting society from the dangers of blackmailers.
The participants presented a number of recommendations to reduce this phenomenon, including not opening links from unknown sources and calling on the Iraqi legislator to expedite the legislation of the cybercrime law and resorting to the competent authorities when subjected to electronic blackmail.
