A doctoral thesis at the College of Science at the University of Karbala discussed the association between fungal infections and certain immune factors as indicators of risk among COVID-19 patients.

The letter submitted by researcher Samar Rafieh came with the aim of identifying the fungal species associated with Corona disease and determining the level of some “immune markers” and “blood markers” in those infected.
The thesis concluded that Corona disease has a significant effect on the level of some “markers” such as CBC, CRP, D DIMER, and suPAR, and it has an effect and causes significant variations in the sequences of some genes.
The thesis recommended using the suPAR level as a determinant of Covid-19 infection, in addition to studying variations in sequences of other genes such as IFN and IL-6.
