The College of Dentistry at the University of Karbala organized a course entitled (Adjunctive Preventive Orthodontic Treatment for Adults) in the College’s Continuing Education Hall, in which the Assistant Professor Dr. Raouf Rashid Al Toama, the Instructor, Athra Abdel Razzaq, and the Assistant Instructor, Russel Natiq Turki, lectured, in the presence of a group of faculty and college employees. .
The course that was held aims to introduce attendees to ways to prevent dental problems during their growth in children, and thus prevent the use of orthodontics as adults, which causes problems in adults, including gingivitis, in addition to its high financial cost.
The course included introducing attendees to the seriousness of some negative conditions in children, such as placing the thumb in the mouth and the frequent use of plastic distractions, which cause distortion in the growth of the teeth and jaw and have major effects in adulthood, such as a distorted smile, a distorted jaw, and a misalignment of the teeth correctly.
The course concluded that preventive orthodontic treatment for children is easier and has much better results. It takes place with the least possible time and effort, and is certainly less expensive than using orthodontics in adults.
