The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, met with the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjártó, on the sidelines of participation in the 13th edition of the International Atomic Energy Forum (Atomexpo), which is being held in the Russian city of Sochi.
The two sides welcomed the coordination between the two countries in the scientific and academic fields and agreed to renew the bilateral cooperation agreement. The two parties, in the presence of the delegations accompanying them, expressed the importance of modernizing scientific and cultural exchange paths and enabling the universities of the two countries to pursue academic programs of common interest.
For his part, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research stressed the need to increase the number of academic seats granted to Iraqi students in the specializations of nuclear energy engineering and nuclear and radiation physics, while at the same time calling on Hungarian students to study in Iraqi universities within the Study in Iraq program.
The Minister of Education explained the strategy adopted by Iraq to develop the zero-sum nuclear reactor and clean energy plants and establish a specialized environment for educational research in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
