The College of Tourism Sciences at the University of Karbala organized a scientific conference on sustainable tourism, with the participation of a group of researchers and academics.
The conference, which was held under the slogan “Sustainable tourism development, the well-being of society and decent economic growth,” aimed to enhance awareness of the economic, social and environmental importance of sustainable tourism, exchange expertise and experiences between parties concerned with the tourism sector, enhance cooperation between them, and provide scientific recommendations for the development of sustainable tourism in Iraq.
The conference included economic, social and environmental topics that were discussed through more than (30) papers by researchers from various Iraqi public and private universities.
The conference activities were attended by the President of the University, Professor Dr. Bassem Khalil Nayel Al-Saidi, and his Assistant for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Akram Mohsen Al-Yasiri, in addition to a group of deans of colleges and official figures in the governorate.
The university’s president, Professor Dr. Bassem Al-Saeedi, stressed that “the conference provides an opportunity to develop sustainable tourism in Iraq and Karbala in particular, given the many tourism potentials that the governorate has.”
Al-Saidi stated that the governorate needs more efforts to enhance tourism promotion and advance its tourism sector as a tributary of economic development.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, Dr. Radhi Hamoud Jassim, said, “The college has taken a set of measures that place it at the forefront of all corresponding colleges, as it has worked to introduce graduate studies to meet the aspirations of students to complete their scientific career. The college has provided various requirements for implementing this project, as well as It sought to create a travel and aviation services department with the aim of preparing specialized human crews with experience to manage work at air ports.
At the conclusion of the conference, the College Deanship honored the University President and former deans for their efforts that contributed to improving the college’s work.
