The Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Karbala, in cooperation with the Popular Mobilization Forces, represented by the Abbas Combat Division, organized its fourth scientific conference to reduce extremism.
The conference, which was held under the slogan, “Strengthening the role of moderation in reducing extremism and terrorism,” aimed to assist relevant parties in developing strategies to combat extremism and terrorism.
The conference sessions witnessed the discussion of (30) papers by researchers from various Iraqi universities and research centers.
The conference activities were attended by the President of the University of Karbala, Professor Dr. Bassem Khalil Nayel Al-Saidi, his assistant for scientific affairs, Professor Dr. Najm Abdul Hussein Al-Janabi, the head of the Higher Education Committee of the Karbala Provincial Council, Dr. Mohsen Al-Kinani, the commander of the Abbas Combat Division, Sheikh Maitham Al-Zaidi, and security and academic figures.
The President of the University, Professor Bassem Khalil Nayel Al-Saidi, said while attending the conference activities: “There is a great responsibility that falls on the shoulders of universities and scientific research centers to confront extremist thought, through their capabilities to educate and alert to the danger of this thought infiltrating the social system,” adding that extremist groups make a living on The area of intellectual desertification that prevails in some societies, stressing the necessity of working to promote the values of tolerance and pluralism and encourage moderation and moderation values.”
For his part, the Director of the Center for Strategic Studies, Professor Dr. Ahmed Kadhim Al-Yasari, stated that “the conference comes in response to the call of the Prime Minister, Mr. Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, for the necessity of organizing scientific conferences that highlight the danger of terrorism and extremist ideology,” adding that the conference’s recommendations will help the Iraqi decision-maker in developing policies and strategies that It contributes now and in the future to reducing the phenomenon of terrorism and intellectual extremism.”
