A master’s thesis at the College of Science at the University of Karbala discussed evaluating the efficiency of some natural plant products in inhibiting the most important skin fungal pathogens.
The thesis submitted by researcher Rana Sabah aimed to isolate and diagnose pathogenic fungi taken from the skin (Dermatophytes) and fungi taken from the mouth (Oral candidiasis) phenotypically using molecular methods and drawing the evolutionary tree.
The study concluded that the hot water extract of pomegranate and oleifera plants has a high inhibitory activity against pathogenic fungi that exceeds the antifungal fluconazole.
The letter recommended conducting other studies on the effect of hot water extracts of pomegranate and oleifera plants on other fungal isolates and studying their effect on other microorganisms.
