The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala organized a training course on smoking and its effects on human life.
The course aimed to introduce the harms of smoking and the most important diseases that affect smokers, including cancer, respiratory diseases such as cough and asthma, and digestive system diseases such as stomach ulcers and heart disease.
The course included topics that demonstrated the immediate effects of nicotine and its long-term effects through the effect of smoking on genetic material, chromosomes, and the occurrence of mutations.
The participants called for attention to these issues in order to spread awareness and abstain from smoking through implementing broad educational campaigns in government institutions and public places.
