The College of Dentistry at Karbala University organized a course titled “Rules and Procedures for Safety in Educational Medical Laboratories” in the Zahra Hall at the college, which lasted for three days. It was presented by Dr. Ayat Abdul Sada, Assistant Lecturer Rabab Salman, and Assistant Lecturer Asil Abdul Rida, with the attendance of first-year students.

The course aimed to enhance first-year students’ awareness of safety and security rules in educational medical laboratories to avoid potential chemical, biological, and physical hazards and how to handle emergency incidents. Additionally, it focused on applying international safety standards and reducing risks to ensure a safe laboratory work environment.

The course included familiarizing students with chemical hazards in laboratories and training them on the principles of safe handling of chemicals, as well as biological hazards, explaining the types of pathogens, their severity, and classifying biosafety levels. It also covered how to handle medical waste and sources of infection to avoid contamination and achieve personal and environmental safety simultaneously.
