The Dean of the College of Dentistry at the University of Karbala, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhannad Salah Abd al-Sattar, performed a rare operation at the Iraqi Board Center, where an operation was performed for a rare genetic condition. A rib and cartilage were taken from the ribs and implanted in the joint to lead to the restoration of the straightening of the face.
The dean of the college said, “We performed an operation for a 6-year-old girl who was suffering from atrophy in the parotid gland, jaw joint, muscles, and tissues associated with the middle ear and the ear, and a rib was implanted in the region to be the growth center of the jaw, as she suffers from complete deviation of the face as a result of atrophy of the jaw joint, as the cage cartilage is considered The thoracic center is a growth center in the face (Growth Center), and the operation was performed in Imam Hussein Medical City / Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Center. The patient was discharged in good condition after spending two days in the hospital.
