Creating eye drops to see in the dark

A group of scientists in the US state of California has created a special type of eye drop that can temporarily give a person the ability to see at night.

Scientists in the “Science for the Masses” organization based their innovation on the idea that the natural compound “Chlorin e6”, or its abbreviation “Ce6”, which can be produced from algae and plants, may enhance the human ability to see in dark places.

According to press reports, the compound is the basis for some cancer treatments, and is used as a treatment for night blindness.

And 50 microliters of “Ce6” was tested on one of the researchers, and its effect was immediate, as he was able to distinguish many shapes in a dark environment, and over time the distance increased to 50 meters.

The same experiment was also conducted on a test group that did not obtain the same compound, and was unable to distinguish only a third of what the researcher distinguished, whose success rate reached 100%.

The effect of Ce6 lasts for a few hours, and the ability to see returns to normal after that.

And the organization published on its website a research paper revealing the details of the experiment, stressing that it needs more research in the future to know the extent of stimulation that the compound gives to the eye, and its long-term effects.
