The role of missing teeth in midline facial deviation

As human jaws shrink, our ancestors undoubtedly had jaws that were more prominent than ours. As the jaws get smaller, some teeth disappear.

For example, we can refer to tooth No. 2. In some patients, tooth No. 2 is missing. This problem can be one-sided or two-sided. When tooth #2 disappears on one side, it can deviate from the midline of the face. This is exactly what happens when the canine tooth becomes recessed and because of this, the rest of our teeth will deviate to one side.
