Your orthodontist will prescribe the right design for you. Some fixers are employed full time for the first 6 months. After that, the fixatives are only used at night for a few years. There are other retainers that are used full time for a week and after that they should only be put on the teeth at night.
The orthodontist will usually give you some specific instructions. But here are some general recommendations. Retainers should be removed when eating, exercising, and brushing your teeth.
To clean retainers, first remove them and clean them with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Brush your teeth afterwards. The safest place for braces is in your mouth. If you do not use installers, they should always be saved in their own wallet. If you put the retainer in a tissue after removing it from your mouth, you increase the chances of it being lost.
