Numerous articles and research papers have identified the influence of genetics on orthodontic treatment. Does genetics affect orthodontic treatment, or can the orthodontist prevent or reduce these effects with his skill and experience? The complexity of factors such as facial and dental development, the physiology of tooth movement and the curvature of the outer surface of the tooth root in orthodontic treatment makes it very difficult to identify the variables that influence treatment. Orthodontists believe that the most important genetic tests that a doctor can perform should include the personal and family history of the patient, because most dental abnormalities are hereditary. In other words, if the patient’s lower jaw is anterior, it is very likely that there is a genetic factor in the patient’s parents. Or close or distant family members, whose lower jaw is also anterior.
