One of the newer treatments is the Damon method. Normally, the wire must be attached to the orthodontic brackets using a very small rubber, but in the Damon method, brackets with the ability to open and close are used. In the Damon system, the wire is attached to the bracket by means of a locking mechanism that is built into it. The Damon system no longer requires a small rubber band around each bracket, so the patient can easily clean the wires and brackets. Whereas in traditional methods of braces, microorganisms can easily build up around the rubber, making it difficult to keep clean, especially for young children. The hygiene system around the braces is improved in this way.
