A dental splint is a device of acrylic resin or various plastic materials, transparent and variable hardness. This is done in a personalized manner for each patient, so that it fits perfectly in the upper passage, the lower passage, or both, depending on the dental treatment.
To design a dental splint, the patient goes to the clinic where the dentist makes some molds of his denture. These casts are sent to the prosthetist, who is the person responsible for making the corresponding splints with exact measurements.
The end result is a splint that fits perfectly in the teeth, is transparent and has high strength. However, the substance that it is made of tends to deteriorate with use, being in contact with oral moisture, and certain types of foods and products that are used in certain treatments.
