Dental plaque is a thin yellow sticky layer that forms on the teeth and gums and can be seen at the gum line of the teeth using disclosing tablets. Bacteria in plaque convert carbohydrates (such as sugar) into acid that demineralizes teeth, eventually causing cavities. Daily brushing and flossing remove plaque.
