Aortic valve replacement is a procedure in which a heart patient’s weakened aortic valve is replaced with an artificial heart valve. We may need to replace the aortic valve because:
Leakage through the aortic valve (aortic valve insufficiency, also known as aortic regurgitation).
The valve is narrowed and does not open completely (aortic valve stenosis).
Current methods of aortic valve replacement include open heart surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, or transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
