The dental assistant must handle sharps with care and use appropriate techniques to minimize any possible injury with sharps which include: needles, scalpels, orthodontic wires and endodontic files.
Sharps should also be disposed of in designated sharps containers, separate from other containers, and the dental assistant should take care of this to reduce the chance of spreading infectious diseases.[6]
