medical use

The primary use of dental implants is to support prostheses with bone depending on a biological process of bone fusion with certain materials (ankylosis) such as titanium or a type of ceramic. The implants bear loads for long periods without failure. Implants are used to replace missing single teeth, multiple teeth, or to restore dental arches (with fixed bridges or implant-fixed dentures). Dental implants are also used in orthodontics to provide a fulcrum. There is also an advanced use of retaining implants for removable prostheses used to fill the connection between the oral and maxillary cavities or the nose).[9] Facial prostheses, which are used to correct facial deformities (eg from cancer treatment or injuries)[10], can be connected to implants placed in the facial bones. Depending on the case, fixed or removable prostheses that replace part of the face can be retained, but according to each case.[11]
